Mixxx Debuts as #1 Free App in the Mac App Store

How are you doing up there, Angry Birds?

In less than 48 hours since we went live, Mixxx has become the #1 Top Free App in the USA, Germany, and Italy. We're also one of the top 3 Apps in Brazil, Canada, France, Japan, and the UK.

We're completely overwhelmed by the response - I don't think anyone saw this coming. We wanted to be in the Mac App Store to reach more users, and now we're reaching far more than we ever expected!

I'd like to thank our entire community of DJs, artists, and developers for their dedication and cooperation that have brought Mixxx this far. Without the devotion of many individuals, Mixxx would not be the software it is today.

As a shameless plug, I'm finishing my degree next month and I'm looking for a job! I'm interested in pursuing a career in game development or live performance audio software. If you know someone who needs a C++ programmer with several years of experience with Qt or real-time audio, please let me know!

  2. Hey Anonymous,

Certainly! Use any USB soundcard (e.g. Maya 44 USB, UCA-202, or NI Audio8 DJ) or just plug your external speakers into your headphone jack on your Mac.

  3. Wow... just wow. This is THE BEST APP I've ever downloaded. I just remixed a Led Zeppelin song in it's entirety and it only took about 30 minutes to learn your app. Congrats on #1 BTW! Can you poll "How many weeks will it stay at #1"??? I can't imagine an app dethroning you any time soon...

  4. Please update your icon for this app. It looks horrible next to some of the other App icons.

  5. Thanks for the comments guys!

Anon: If I had known we were going to get such a visible placement in the Mac App Store, I would have had the icon redesigned beforehand. (On the other hand, I think relative to the Free Apps, ours isn't too terrible.) We will definitely look into a new icon soon.

  11. nice app. Only a BIG mistake about pitch fader.

ALL professional device use this way:

from middle to UP = slower music
from middle to DOWN = faster music

Many people without cdj experience find up to speed up more natural but you can switch the behaviour in the preferences.

  14. I just love the reactions I'm seeing in the Mac App store. They just can't believe it's free. The free and open source community has some great jewels if you know where to look :) I've used this on Ubuntu (partly) and now I have this on my MacBook Pro. Fantastic app. :)

  18. A resolution independent theme would be much nicer. Can't full screen on my 27" :/

Still in awe that this is free though. Can we have support for chaining audio units nex?

  19. I'm very happy to hear this good news, you guys have done a great software.

Its great for you that you guys are became an apple app. But i have to say, as a cross platform user, I don't like the idea i can't download the software by myself. I couldn't find a link to download, felt obliged to go thru the whole registration process inside the apple store stuff.

But again, i'm probably one of the few that hates this over control apple and google shares over our personal data.

Can't please everyone. :) Again, thanks for the great software.

  20. Honestly, I'm not really shocked that Mixxx made it to the top so quick. I downloaded it about two years ago for the first time, and I've loved the slick interface and ease of use. I'm not really a great musician myself, but I love to tinker, and this is certainly a program that is intuitive.
