I started doing more Mixxx development on Windows this week and I've been trying to fix lots of little bugs. I'm pretty embarrassed at how badly broken drag-and-drop on Windows was in 1.8.0 Beta 2 - Sorry about that guys, we really didn't do much testing of the library stuff on Windows before the release. It's fixed in our 1.8 code repository, but I have no idea when we're going to make our next release. I think that bug pretty crippling though, so if enough people complain, I'll try to talk our Windows packager into building a new version for you guys.
On Saturday, we woke up to a nice surprise from our downloads.mixxx.org hosting provider. They cut off downloads to Mixxx 1.7.2 for Win32 because we had too many requests to it! We had a couple thousand downloads in one day, and apparently they're unable to provide us with the 5 TB of monthly bandwidth we pay them for because of CPU usage. After scratching our heads for a while, we ended up redirecting users to a temporary download page with links to a mirror site and a torrent. Big thanks to Mark Glines for helping us out temporarily until we find a permanent hosting solution!
Our MIDI guru, Sean Pappalardo, has put a new video this week showcasing the SCS.3d and SCS.3m MIDI controllers in action:
Lastly, check out YouTube user Scratchtometry busting out his SCS.3d hot cueing and scratching skillz with Mixxx in two videos:
Interesting video, thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteMixxx is a nice piece of software and i would choose it over others ( really love the midi part) , but it uses so much cpu it is unusable on my 2009 Macbook pro :-(
Pegasus here. We have plans to deal with the CPU issue. There are a number of reasons why it's so high right now, most notably Qt 4.6's poor handling of OpenGL (compared to Qt 4.5.) We have a wiki page on performance enhancements if you're interested in more details.
ReplyDeletePegasus: The anonymous user above is affected by a known issue that causes the waveform to bring Mixxx to a crawl on certain Macbook Pros. You're right - it is a Qt problem, but we really need help with the tiling waveform renderer because a proper fix is still a ways away. Hopefully I can write up a blog post about this in the near future, because it's a great opportunity for new contributors to help out for the benefit of a lot of users.
ReplyDeleteDying for the next beta! When can we expect beta 3 or newer?
ReplyDeleteMatt: We've just pushed out a release candidate for Ubuntu 10.10, so that users of the next Ubuntu can get 1.8.0 from the repositories.
ReplyDeleteBesides that, we're mostly working on fixing up some rough edges on Windows and finishing up artwork. We also need to do a round of MIDI controller testing and update the manual. The list goes on, but I think an August or early September release for 1.8.0 is not unreasonable.
Sweet sweet sweet! Can not wait.
ReplyDeleteI really like mixxx, especially with the new hot cues but i'd like to start using my oxygen 49 keyboard with it. I'm not the kind of person to start delving into making a midi file however so a midi learn button would be great for me and many others who have a more unconventional midi setup, cheers
ReplyDeletewhy don`t post something about how to connect SCS 3d with mixx i have it from five days and this thing work only with vitual dj.....
ReplyDeleteThis is the most helpful video I have found for using the scs.3s yet thank you so much..
ReplyDeletewere can I find a full tutorial on using the scs.3s and mix 10?
